It seems like everyone is trying to come up with some cool new idea for wedding favors. I’ve seen people do the Livestrong bracelets, donate money to charity, or give chocolates. Recently I stumbled across Sweet K cookies, a Sugar cookie company in Reading, MA. Kristen makes the most amazing cookies and her designs are awesome. I’m so impressed with them!
I did a short interview
What made you get into Sugar cookies?
When I had my daughter I decided to leave the Fashion world due to all of the traveling. I wanted to find something that combined my creative fashion skills with my background in business. I started doing cookies for kids birthday parties for free, one thing led to another, and then I started getting paid jobs.
Do you do exclusively Sugar cookies?
I do multiple flavors of decorated sugar cookies – traditional, spice and chocolate.
What is the design you like doing the most?
All of the shapes that I do for kids birthday parties are a lot of fun. I recently did Woody’s cowboy hat from toy story, Hello Kitty, Thomas the Train. You can’t help but smile at them…
How do you come up with your ideas for the fun sugar cookies?
I do a lot of research on the internet, I read various blogs by people in the ‘sweet’ industry and I also love cooking shows. Ideas can come from anywhere really…. Sometimes I’ll get inspired by one of my daughters books or toys and think ‘that would make a cute cookie!’
If a bride wanted to order some as favors for a wedding, how much lead time would you need?
For large orders, 2-3 weeks is helpful. That way I can customize any details/colors that the bride wants.
Would the bride need to come up with the concept or would you?
I would work with the bride to find a cookie that would suit the look and feel of the wedding. Some weddings have a theme or color that can be worked into the cookie favor. I can also add initials, date, names, etc. to give each favor a personal touch. I can also do cookie bouquets that work as both the centerpiece and favor. Each cookie is placed on a lollipop stick and arranged just like a floral bouquet in a pretty vase, pot or basket. I have made many of these centerpieces for bridal showers.
Anything else you want to add, please feel free!!!
I love my job which is really nice to be able to say. It’s the perfect balance for me right now with my young children. I can be home with them most of the time but I also have my small business which gives me a sense of self. I recently filmed a segment called ‘The Dish’ with Sarah French from channel 7 where we created a Valentine’s Day cookie bouquet. It was so much fun to do something I have never done before. It was a blast!!!
Below are some of the cookies from a shoot I did with Kristen. I highly recommend you check her out!!! I did happen to be paid in cookies, and I will tell you- these are the best sugar cookies I’ve ever eaten!
The cool thing about doing Sugar cookies as a favor is, A) who doesn’t like sugar cookies? B) you can do any design you can think of. Have a love of the Red Sox? Have a baseball cookie made with your names. Doing a sunflower theme for your wedding? Add a splash of color on everyone’s plate with Sunflower cookies. The possibilities are endless!!!
Be sure to check out Kristen’s cookies. They really are awesome and so tasty!!!
