Facebook has been such a huge help to me in terms of sharing photos and client sessions. I love Facebook for being able to share photos instantly with hundred and thousands of people. I’ve been using Facebook for what seems like, forever.
Lately, I’ve noticed something ugly, something so horrible I don’t even know what to do. When I upload my beautiful sharp pretty photos onto Facebook, they load and look like something so far from what I originally put up there, I almost want to pull it down. Lately, I’ve been uploading to facebook and then linking to my high quality file for clients to see. I just want it know that my files look so much better than what you’re seeing. There are tips and tricks (supposedly) to help improve the “look” of a file. These tricks are suppose to help maintain the sharpness and get around the image compression. One trick is to resize it, and the convert it to a PNG and then upload it. (how many steps is that?!) Does anyone besides me know what a PNG is? It doesn’t matter, it doesn’t work, I tried it. Nothing works. Nothing but begging Facebook to stop compressing my files! From now on , I will post a photo on Facebook and then link to the original file that is NOT compressed. To view the the compression I am talking about, Look at this file below: The file on the left is all pixelated. The file on the right is not. To view the original that I tried to upload to facebook, click here See the difference? It’s huge. Especially when you look at the original.
Please note, this file below is zoomed in. Look at the face of the groom, John. Totally blurry on the Facebook File. Just look at their faces, it’s not a huge difference, but it’s big enough to bother me.
